A textbook for the five-year undergraduate dental medicine program, was successfully held at the Ninth People’s Hospital affiliated with Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine. The event, hosted by People’s Medical Publishing House and organized by the Ninth People’s Hospital and the School of Stomatology at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, brought together 54 editors from 39 institutions across the country. Wang Lizhen, Vice President of the School of Stomatology, presided over the meeting.
Ma Yanbin, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Ninth People’s Hospital, delivered a welcome speech, expressing warm greetings to the experts and sincere congratulations on the meeting. He emphasized the significant importance of the undergraduate planning textbook compilation and proposed enhancing the practicality and influence of the textbook through a combination of print and digital versions, in line with new national educational development requirements. Yang Jin, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of People’s Medical Publishing House, reviewed the textbook compilation process, outlined the timeline and goals, stressed the importance of quality and innovation, and called on the editors to work together to create a high-quality textbook that fosters foundational skills and intellectual growth.
Zhang Zhiyuan, an academician and the first chief editor, on behalf of co-chief editors Guo Chuanbin and Shi Bing for the print version, and Yang Chi for the digital resources, reported on the overall compilation progress and the next steps, emphasizing the balance between tradition and innovation. The team, composed of nationally recognized experts with extensive clinical experience, ensures the formal and accurate content, particularly in fundamental theories, knowledge, and procedures. The collaboration aims to cultivate more high-quality oral and maxillofacial surgeons.
The meeting then moved into the discussion phase for finalizing the draft. Over two days, chapter leaders presented their work, detailing adjustments and optimizations compared to the previous edition. Experts engaged in in-depth discussions and revisions on chapter content, structure, terminology, and reached a consensus on modifications.
Fang Yi and Gao Huan from People’s Medical Publishing House summarized the compilation formats and copyright issues for both print and digital versions, focusing on key issues such as the revision and proofreading process, unified terminology, interdisciplinary content handling, review and correction of charts and images, and quality control of digital content. They emphasized adherence to the spirit of the meeting consensus, the importance of expert opinions, rigorous review of relevant content, identified issues from the previous edition, proposed improvement measures, and clarified the revision timeline and goals to enhance the overall quality and professionalism of the book.
